Welcome to this new edition of EM’s newsletter in the wake of the positive news of the renewal of the AGOA by the US Senate.
The AGOA was enacted in May 2000 under President Bill Clinton. It makes provision for 39 eligible sub-Saharan African countries to export more than 6,400 products to the USA duty-free. Since its introduction in 2001, exports from African countries to the US have more than quadrupled according to figures from the US International Trade Commission. Under AGOA, exports from Mauritius to the USA grew from Rs. 4.3 billion in 2011 to Rs. 8.1 billion in 2014 …
SEAFOOD EXPO GLOBAL
EM has been organising the participation of seafood operators in Seafood Expo Global (previously called the European Seafood Exhibition), the world’s largest seafood trade fair, since 2009. Four companies took part in this year’s edition. Read more…
FOIRE INTERNATIONALE DE MADAGASCAR
The Foire International De Madagascar (FIM) is a yearly trade event which entails the participation of exporting companies from France, China, South Africa, Belgium, Pakistan and other countries including Mauritius which is the closest trading partner of Madagascar. CONTACT PROMOTION PROGRAMME
Harare – Zimbabwe
Domestic Exports to Zimbabwe from Mauritius has been increasing since 2010 and there is scope to tap into this market. To further increase exports, Enterprise Mauritius organized a Contact Promotion Program (CPP) which took place on 18 & 19 May 2015, in Harare International Convention Centre in Harare. Read more …

Kenya is one of the strongest trading partners of Mauritius in Africa over the years. To further increase trade between Mauritius and Kenya, Enterprise Mauritius organized a Contact Promotion Program for Mauritian Companies at Hilton Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya from 14 – 15 May 2015. Read more …

RHUM FEST PARIS 2015
Enterprise Mauritius led the participation of rum producers at RhumFest Paris from 23 to 25 May 2015. This was a successful event for our rum producers who won 5 awards, of which two Gold for Grays and its New Grove rums. Saint Aubin won 2 bronze awards while Rhumerie de Chamarel won a silver award. Source Africa 2015 is attracting manufacturers from 19 countries including prominent SADC and COMESA member states. Around 800 to 1,000 international professional buyers are expected to visit the show. Mauritius will be represented by 42 local manufacturers among which are 36 Textile and Apparel companies . The Southern African International Trade Exhibition ( SAITEX) is a multi-sector Trade Fair held annually, that facilitates international trade with Africa. The Trade Show SAITEX occurs simultaneously with the sister event Africa Big Seven, the biggest fair for foodstuff , machinery, equipment and catering service sector on the continent, running now it’s 30th edition of technology. Visit of Indonesian Delegation
On 14th May 2015, Enterprise Mauritius (EM) welcomed an Indonesian delegation consisting of four members led by Mr Lasro Simbolon, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Indonesia and accompanied by the Honorary Consul, Mr Salim G. Joonas from the Consulate for the Republic of Indonesia. On an exploratory visit to Mauritius for the very first time, the aim behind the visit was to add more substance to the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Mauritius ….

RENEWAL OF THE Africa Growth Opportunity Act (AGOA)
In May 2000 enacted by the US congress in May 2000, the AGOA, Africa Growth Opportunity Act is the largest trade agreement covering about 7700 product lines. Although AGOA is a unilateral treaty or agreement to facilitate the penetrate of African products in the US, this agreement has increased two-way trade between the US and sub-Saharan Africa. 41 sub-Saharan African countries were eligible for AGOA benefits as per the 2014 review by President Obama…
The following GO-Export training modules have been completed for the second batch of around 20 SMEs willing to export their products. The course started in October 2014.
The concept of Roxspa was born out of Amanda Khan’s love and passion for nature and body care. Canadian by birth, Amanda, a Yoga teacher and Certified Shiatsu therapist, made Mauritius her home in 2003. Inspired by the beauty of Mauritius, Amanda set out to create a locally manufactured aromatherapy product range that would celebrate the diversity of ingredients native to the Mauritian islands. Trained in the UK and Australia in cosmetics manufacturing, Amanda put her skills to the test and as a result her dream of creating spa products materialized into her first exotic aromatherapy spa range entitled, Roxspa Mauritius.
What’s new in the Knowledge Centre
The Knowledge Centre is a specialized, referenced, and computerized Trade Information Centre. Its main objective is to assist and proactively disseminate up-to-date, strategic and operational information to business operators. The Centre is involved in the collection, processing, dissemination, research, and links to useful intelligence sources.
The specialized collections 2015 and services of the Knowledge Centre are designed to meet the critical information requirements of a broad base of organizations, including those of small and medium-sized enterprises.
