Welcome to the first edition of EM’s newsletter in 2015. This edition is special as it is being launched in the context of government change, presentation of its first budget, appointment of Hon. Ashit Gungah as Minister of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Protection and the appointments of Mr. Arvind Radhakrishna and Mr. Yousuf Salehmohamed as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of EM respectively.

The Government programme announced by the President of the Republic on 27 January 2015 set the scene and presented Government’s overarching objective “to shape a second socio-economic miracle” by transforming Mauritius into a sustainable, vibrant and innovative country with modern infrastructure, global connectivity, high skills and technology….

Main features of the 2015-2016 Budget Speech


The Minister of Finance and Economic Development delivered the budget speech entitled “Mauritius at the crossroad” on 23rd March 2015. This budget aims at taking the country to the next level of development.

The 2015-2016 sets four clear objectives:

  • Steer the economy towards a path of high investment, and high employment
  • Secure long term sustainable development for all
  • Achieve achieve greater equity and social justice for one and all
  • Promote transparency and good governance in the management of public affairs

Our New Chief Executive Officer


Arvind Radhakrishna, newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Mauritius holds a Masters Degree in Economics. Backed by a professional international career spanning over a 20- year period, he has held senior positions in important institutions such as the Mauritius Export Development & Investment Authority (MEDIA), the Mauritius Industrial Development Authority and Enterprise Mauritius. He further established and took charge of MEDIA representative offices for the promotion of exports and investment both in Taiwan and South Africa …

Our New Chairman


Recently appointed as the Chairman of Enterprise Mauritius, Mr Yousuf Salehmohamed, walked into the professional world at the age of 16.  He started his career by working in a well-known firm of Chartered Accountants. In 1975, he joined a well-known textile group as their accountant where he climbed the corporate ladder till the position of general manager.  He then started his own company acting as suppliers/ buyers agents and also offered his services as consultant in international sourcing and quality control. …

Go Export


SMEs producing for the local market sometimes lack essential skills to export. Consequently, one of EM’s objectives is to build up the capacity of the SMEs and help increase the competiveness of enterprises to respond to global market requirements.
The Go Export initiative was designed to assist SMEs with the following:

  • Capacity building at the level of products’ improvements

Mauritius Convention on Transparency in Investor-State Arbitration 


Arbitration is the private, judicial determination of a dispute, by an independent third party. Both parties should agree on resorting to the services of an arbitration to resolve the issue of contention. An arbitration hearing may involve the use of an individual arbitrator or a tribunal and the number of arbitrators may also vary. The disputing parties hand over their power to settle the dispute to the arbitrator(s). It is an alternative to court action (litigation), and the ruling of an arbitrating panel is both binding and final. Proponents of arbitration argue that this mode of dispute resolution is faster as the time taken to hand over a ruling is comparably less than court actions. …
