Since the industrialisation of Mauritius, the Agricultural Sector has evolved from a mono-Sugar industry into a multi agro products and cane industry much oriented towards exportation. Today, the agri export sector has emerged into five sub-sectors with a foothold on the export markets, which are:

Domestic exports amounted to Rs 20.1 billion in 2015 whereby the Seafood sector accounted for 47%, followed by Sugar & Confectionery (39%). Main products of export include preserved tuna (canned, pouch & jar), frozen tuna, fresh fish, refined sugar, special raw sugar, animal feed, fresh fruits (pineapple, lychee), cut flowers, instant noodle, tropical jams & honey, pickles, cake decorations and spirits (rum, wine).
